Information we consume plays a central role in how we see things and learn how to live in a complex world, and the family space is central in developing a nuanced, healthy relationship with information. Not so long ago, most families used to watch the news together, and newspapers lay on the table ready to be read and commented on together. This is happening less and less, so we wanted to create a shared space for reflection and news consumption together—a shared time for kids and parents to learn about important topics and learn how to avoid misinformation.
SharedTime is an EU-funded project built around a newsletter for families, designed to help them explore and better understand the digital world. It encourages children aged 8 to 12 to develop critical and safe online habits, while bringing adults and young people together to navigate the digital environment and build media literacy and critical thinking skills.
The platform is free to sign up. Click on the button above. The newsletter is delivered to your inbox monthly and is packed with stories and activities to engage with together as a family.
Our partners are Verificat, Internazionale Kids, Smile and Learn, and Facta, and the project is built around a monthly newsletter and a web platform.
Over ten issues, it will help families recognise disinformation and talk about online safety through news, videos, activities, games and fact-checking exercises. Its main goal is to promote shared learning experiences that counter disinformation and strengthen digital awareness, connecting families, schools and communities. In the longer term, the project aims to expand across the European Union, helping to foster a new generation of informed and responsible citizens.
